Yesterday – Sat-16-Dec – was the day I needed to return my little hired Toyota Starlet back to its rightful owner, Omega Car Rentals Ltd, at their main depot in Downtown Auckland. So I’m now down from six wheels (seven including the spare, but let’s not go there … again) to just two wheels. The need to catch a bus back to Howick seemed like a lot of hassle beforehand; but not so, just see how close Omega’s City depot in Beach Road is to the bus stop in Britomart Street – less than 300 metres in a westerly direction, and certainly no more than a 3 – 4 minute walk between the two locations. I couldn’t believe my luck.
The 13:45pm #50 bus to Howick pulls up 80 seconds early, but leaves the station absolutely bang-on time
I play the tourist and take a picture through the bus window of the magnificent Sky Tower, which absolutely dominates Auckland's skyline. Standing at 328m high, it's the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere.
My happy travelling companions. An hour later, again bang-on time, I disembark the bus no more than 200 metres from my B&B temporary home.

Some spectacular vistas of New Zealand
These are just a tiny sample of the views I experienced during my last visit to New Zealand in late December '05 and January '06. So it is easy to see why I am drawn back to this beautiful country ...
